Objectives of the Work Package 6

The main objetives of the work package 6 are:

  • To conduct comparative fieldwork between the Global North and the Global South
  • To develop spaces for collective reflection and writing
  • To promote joint training and dissemination activities

Research outputs and deliverables are co-authored with host institutions and host researchers, as part of a decolonial approach to the production of scientific knowledge.

General Scientific Rationale

WP6 aims to examine how institutions contribute to the normalization of ages and life courses. It explores how new age categories and biographical trajectories emerge in response to globalization and major societal transformations.

With a focus on representations of age within the general population, public policies, and NGOs' practices and representations, the analysis connects institutional and cultural frameworks with individual and subjective experiences.

To do so, the WP6 adopts a process-oriented sociological perspective, examining how individuals:

  • Appropriate age norms
  • Reinterpret institutional categorizations
  • Sometimes challenge dominant classifications

And applies an intersectional perspective that considers the interplay between:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Social class
  • Community affiliation and social groups

This approach allow a nuanced understanding of age normalization processes. Psychological perpectives contribute to enriching this analytical framework.
