6.2.2 Training through fieldwork: Welfare, family policies, and social work

Scientific Rationale

The program analyzes social and family policies based on the life trajectories of the populations studied and the institutions that support them. What institutions and mechanisms exist within countries? How are children, adolescents, and the elderly cared for? How are families involved in the various systems and social and educational policies? What are the terms of care? Do these terms of care influence family, educational, and caregiving practices and the development of individuals from early childhood to old age?

The program proposes to analyze family and parental representations and practices, addressing in particular attachment, emotional relationships, parent-child relationships, educational practices, and their influence on the development of babies, children, and young people. It will also address the issue of aging, the experiences of older people according to their different profiles, and more broadly the issue of the transformation of family solidarity and the relationship between autonomy and dependence.

Methods and approaches

Data will be collected in a cross-referenced manner by pairs in different countries in order to obtain as much information as possible, and will then be sent to other members of the group for analysis.

This program insists on developing an interdisciplinary approach between sociology, education sciences, ethology, clinical psychology and social psychology. Both sociological and psychological tools will be used during the different fieldworks:

- Interviews
- Observations
